About the reserve

What's it like to visit?

Wander through the wood to discover a range of habitats lots of different plants and animals. The large pool is home to an assortment of aquatic life hiding among the water-lilies and pondweeds. Frogs, toads, moorhens and dragonflies breed here, with fascinating water boatmen and diving beetles.  Some paths can get muddy, especially after heavy rain so bring your wellies if you have them.

What is there to do here?

  • Look for frog spawn in early spring
  • Spot the carved trail markers
  • Make a journey stick: a memento of your walk from collected fallen items
  • Sniff the scent of water mint at the pond edge
  • Spot colourful berries in Autumn

Reserve history

Created on arable farmland on the edge of Rugby, this reserve was created on land donated by Sainsburys, to mitigate the building of its nearby supermarket.

Our Green and Healthy Rugby programme ran here in 2016, introducing people to getting active outdoors at our reserves. There is strong evidence of the health and wellbeing benefits of getting active outside.   We hosted free taster sessions in 2016 and had a great turnout with lots of people becoming regular volunteers. Find out more about the success of Green and Healthy Rugby!
