About the reserve

Daffern’s wood is on the western edge of New Arley village in rural North Warwickshire and was the first Local Nature Reserve to be declared in North Warwickshire. It is an Ancient Semi-Natural Woodland dating back to 1600 and is irreplaceable. Ancient woodlands are an important habitat for many rare and threatened species of animals and plants.

Daffern's Wood was once part of Arley Wood, in the Arden Forest which covered most of Warwickshire. Access, habitats and educational features at the reserve were improved as part of the wild:LIFE project a few years ago.

What is there to do here?

The thick woodland here offers many animals and birds shelter, hunting and nesting places. Hearing them may be lot easier than seeing them especially in summer when the undergrowth is thick. You may find looking for the signs animals leave behind much easier, such as owl pellets and discarded burrows.
