Celebrating ‘Love Parks Week’ with two Green Flag awards!

Oakley Wood awarded a prestigious Green Flag for the very first time.

This year’s ‘Love Parks week’ got off to a great start for Warwick District Council with the announcement that Jephson Gardens has won its eleventh Green Flag Award, the international mark of a quality park or green space.

However to top that the council’s Green Spaces team also got the news that Oakley Wood has also been awarded a prestigious Green Flag for the very first time. Oakley Wood near Bishop’s Tachbrook is one of the district’s largest accessible woodlands. The woodland is owned by the district council and maintained in partnership with the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust and the Friends of Oakley Wood.

Councillor Moira-Ann Grainger, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services at Warwick District Council said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive not one but two Green Flag Awards from Keep Britain Tidy. These awards recognise and highlight that residents and visitors to Warwick district are benefitting from green spaces of the very highest quality.”

Karl Curtis, Director of Reserves and Community Engagement at the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust added; “To receive a Green Flag award for Oakley Wood is a fantastic achievement and testament not only to the work of the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, Friends of Oakley Wood and Warwick District Council, but also to the outstanding efforts of teams of volunteers who regularly assist in the maintenance of the woodland attending sessions including hedgerow planting and coppicing.”

During Love Parks Week officers from the council’s Media team will be photographing visitors to the district’s parks holding big hearts stating why they love their chosen green space.
