Nature Force Volunteer

Martin Lloyd, Nature Force

Having worked in the automotive industry from the age of 16, at the age of 52 an opportunity came along in a one off deal to take earlier than planned retirement.

So at the end of December 2006 I said goodbye to Range Rover quality department and set off into the sunset. What to do with all that free time afforded to me then.

An interest in wildlife and birds gave me the opportunity to volunteer some of my free time with Nature Force and already a member of the wildlife trust it was obviously what I wanted to do. So from January 2007 I have become a member of a team that goes out in all weathers to work on the reserves and make a difference for wildlife.

Over the last six years I have made a lot of friends enjoyed the camaraderie and learnt a lot of new skills that I have also been able to pass on to new volunteers over my time with the trust. As well as Nature Force I am also involved in Survey Force which was started last year to monitor how what we do has made a difference. I am also one of the select group of people who get to drive the nice white minibus.

As a result of volunteering with nature force a group of volunteers who have become very good friends and I, once a year go to mid wales to help out an ex volunteer Em Foot who is now reserves officer for the Ceredigion area of South and West Wales Wildlife Trust so we all get to catch up on all the gossip and have a physical but enjoyable weekend.

I look forward to continuing my Nature Force activities for many years to come.
