A newly planted broadleaved woodland with a large pool.
Created on arable farmland on the edge of Rugby, this nature reserve was created on land donated by Sainsburys, to mitigate the building of its nearby supermarket.
The diverse mixture of habitats that have developed now support an already impressive array of plants and animals. A large pool adds considerable diversity, with water-lilies and pondweeds hiding an assortment of aquatic life. Frog, toad, moorhen and dragonfly breed here, with fascinating water boatmen and diving beetles indicating the successful creation of the fast establishing pool.
Winter 2018/19
Woodland Management on this nature reserve
We will be thinning out parts of the woodland over winter 2018/19 to improve the nature reserve for both people and wildlife.
Thinning is essential in young woodlands and keeps them healthy. Over time, more light and structural diversity will improve it as a valuable local nature reserve.
At times footpaths may be closed off so please pay attention to any signage and we thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Reserve work party
There is a weekly work party of fantastic volunteers here at Cock Robin Wood. They get hands-on looking after the reserve.
If you're interested in volunteering please contact volunteering@wkwt.org.uk.
Green and Healthy Rugby ran in 2016 introducing people to getting active outdoors at our reserves. There is strong evidence of the health and wellbeing benefits of getting active outside.
We hosted free taster sessions in 2016 and had a great turnout with lots of people becoming regular volunteers. Find out more about the success of Green and Healthy Rugby!
