Welcome to Jo, our Wilder Community Organiser
What do I love about nature? I love all the small things, the bumblebees bumbling around with legs full of pollen, hoverflies darting among bright yellow flowers, and the sparrows animatedly chattering in the bushes., What I also love is to share it with others who feel similarly excited. I love to hear children excited about nature, exploring, asking questions, or giving me amazing facts that I didn’t know before. I also love their idealism and determination to do something better than their predecessors when it comes to looking after nature.
After an interesting and varied career, including living and working in China, I decided a change in direction was needed and went back to university to do an MSc in Primate Conservation.
I graduated and was offered a position working with the Hainan gibbon, but Covid-19 changed everything. Too old and impatient to hang around, I got into bats and worked as a bat surveyor with Middlemarch Environmental and, switching to ecology studies, I became a permanent member of staff.
I now work for Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, because conservation is part of who I am. I live it in my everyday life and, the way to make conservation more impactful is to help as many other people connect and care for nature as possible. I love working with people, I love wildlife and I will do whatever I can to make the most of everyday to improve things both for nature and for people.
