Gather round the campfire and get cozy to discuss and process your climate related emotions.

Have recent weather events increased your eco-anxiety? Come join us for a welcoming, empathetic, confidential group space where fears and uncertainties about climate crisis, nature loss and a rapidly changing planet can be safely expressed whilst surrounded by the beautiful scenery at Brandon Marsh Nature Reserve.

As this is a GenWild event, the event is only open to 18–30-year-olds who live, work or study in Warwickshire, Coventry or Solihull.

We will meet outside the visitor centre.

Free transport can be arranged from Coventry Train Station upon request by emailing yc@wkwt.org.uk. Teas and coffees will be provided and there will be an opportunity to explore the reserve after the event if you wish.
What’s the purpose?

As it becomes evident that climate change and ecological destruction are not far-away problems but are clear dangers to our own safety and wellbeing, people increasingly need to talk – safely - about what this means for them, their families and for society. This can help to bring relief, build greater understanding, develop emotional resilience, and increase people’s ability to adapt to challenges, both now and in times ahead. And whilst the climate and ecological crisis are the focus, sometimes people bring war, pandemics, societal decline, and the collapse of what we know. All these issues are welcomed.

What happens during the meeting?

Once everyone has arrived and used the toilet if they wish we will walk down to the campfire area. We provide refreshments on arrival for you to help yourselves, chat, if you wish, and when it’s time to start we will invite you to take a seat, in a circle.

We agree that there will be no advice, no guest speakers, and no expectation that people will join a cause or take particular action. The facilitators will usually bring some objects from nature, which often helps people to begin to access and share feelings.

These particular types of Climate Cafés are not drop-in sessions; we start on time and close to new arrivals 5-10 minutes in, once group agreements have been reached.

At the end of the meeting we facilitators will signpost other sources of support such as 1:1 counselling or other groups, and give your our contact details for you to get in touch if you wish.

Location: The course is being held at Brandon Marsh Nature Centre, CV3 3GW. There is plenty of free parking on site. We will be based around a small camp fire, under a tarpaulin roof. There will be garden chairs, camping chairs, logs or blankets for you to choose as your seating.

What to wear: The site can be muddy in wet weather. So we suggest old trainers, wellies or walking boots for your feet. And clothes you don't mind getting mucky! Layers are always best, as you can remove or add as the weather conditions change.

Weather: We do not cancel sessions for rain, cooler or warmer temperatures (unless deemed a risk to health) - so please be preapred to be out in whatever the British weather gives us! (see below for T&C around cancellations due to weather). We have a shelter to keep us as dry as possible in the event of heavy down pours.
